I was exchanging Pm's with Anwar Sahab just last evening about buying a Dremel/clone. Here is what I found:

Original Dremel supplier: www.coleparmer.in
http://www.coleparmer.in/catalog/product_index.asp?cls=49100

What I plan to go in for is this:
http://cgi.ebay.in/German-Mini-Grinder-Drill-Kit-228-pcs_W0QQitemZ110103901598QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_203?hash=item19a2b4359e

Shouldn't be too bad as it seems to be made in Germany. Plus it is available for a fraction of the price. What say Guys? Worth it?

Cheers!

It was funny that I was seeing the price in dollars for the Dremel, which is $160, and VC was seeing a price of around Rs.16000 ! This is not surprising, as many ecommerce systems detect where the user is coming from, and show different information/prices. But I can't see how VAT/tax etc can make such a difference.

Here is a screenshot of what I am seeing.

Thanks n Regards.

I am not surprised by that.  I can also see the price in rupees, once I chose India.  What I was surprised by was the difference in price, which cannot seem to be explained by taxes alone !

Is that a point for you to negotiate with them ?  ;)

Also, the average price of the dremel with 25 attachments is around $50 in the US.  Indian prices should translate to around than Rs4000, from that perspective.

Interesting, I have found that shop to be more expensive compared to others. But the shop is nice if you want to browse through all the tools. Structured like a mini version of stores abroad with aisles of tools.

Which dremel model did you buy ? I suspect it is the engraver for that price from that shop.

I bought my first rotary tool from there, a mini craft. It was a mini crap, it didn't even last 1hr of use and there was no support to fix it even if I was willing to pay for the spares. The cheap ones you get now for 1000Rs are of better quality.

Hi Guys !!!

Finally I bought the original Dremel 300 with flexi shaft from Lohar Chawl (Nagdevi) from one of the Bosch dealers... There are many shops selling this at various prices  :discuss: had to bargain. I had to roam and search for the best price. Local Chinese clones were available for approx Rs.1500 but I BELIEVE I got a better deal on the Dremel.  ;D

Got it for Rs.4000+Tax. (including Flexi and a 51 pcs accsory) with bill and 6 month warranty.

Other shops were selling the same for 7000 and above. The MRP printed on the box is Rs.7250 (oct 2009 Batch) :giggle:

Cheers!!!

Hey Saurabhh
4k for 51 Assy set Dremel is a FANTASTIC deal!! I guess genuine Dremel have far better finish and high quality Chuck/Collet for good accuracy (who loves wobbling bit?). I spend 10-15 seconds to center my bit every time I change bit/wheel on my Chinese Dremel clone.

I bet you wont regret all your life. I can't explain how easy it makes few things - I would have not completed the conversion of my cheapo Chinese plan to full 2 channel without this tool. The best attachment is the 'Cutout Wheel' with which you can cut/grind plastic, wood etc.

Do post the build log!

Sure..

Ya.. I guess 4K is a good deal..  8-)  and that too with the flexi shaft...

Just incase if anyone is looking out the same, I can give the name of the shop and the owner.. (PM me please).

Yes, I will be building Balsa... this is a Seagull Extra 260 (90-120 size) model. I have an OS 120 AX for it. Servos: All Hitec 635HB (All karbonite gears). Will be using the 2 X Dualsky 1500mah, 7.2V Receiver pack with Dualsky 8Amp regulator. This is a complete balsa model with fibreglass cowl.

Completely agree... the quality of Dremel is unbeatable... I did check the chinese clone and ran both dremel and chinese at the shop to see the difference... BOY  :o there is a hell lot of difference. Dremel was much much smoother and fast... anyway would not comment much on this :-X... everyone have their opinion.

I got a similar stuff for 1200 bucks from SP road(China make) and its more than what I will ever need. It does not have 55 attachments. Whatever attachment it came with(40+), I just brought few more for my needs(+100 bucks.) :D

It also comes with a stand so that I can fix it on the table. From what I can say based on usage, its pretty accurate. Though I don't do much of sanding stuff. but do pretty much of cutting drilling etc. Really worth the 1300 bucks. I cant compare with dremel as I have never used dremel.

EDIT: On the other side of the motor, It also has a analog speed control dial which I can use to adjust the RPM of the motor. Pretty useful feature.
