Hi Guys !!!

Does anyone know any shop in CHENNAI, where I can buy the ORIGINAL DREMEL 300  .

Help Greatly appreciated.

Prasad.

Rotor Sports near Ashok pillar has taken the dealership for Dremel recently.  Contact Aravind for info on prices and availability.  He had some stock in his shop.  Not sure whether the Dremel 300 is available.

Can the Dremel replace the work of a drilling machine?

Dremel is a multi-purpose hand held tool one of many of its uses is drilling. But strictly I
would focus on getting a design of an aircraft and the build materials. The most rudimentary tools (knife, fine sand paper, hacksaw or finer saw blades, glue) are more than sufficient for that first plane. I mean when one hasn't built anything yet, getting tools isn't going to help anyway. I too collected what I needed along the way.

I depends on the material you are drilling into, the size/dia of the hole you are drilling and to some extent the type of dremel (controllable speed).  They can be used to drill small holes (I guess bigger ones can possibly be created by repeatedly drilling smaller holes?).

Yes of course, you can use the original dremel tool as a drilling machine and there is a mini drill stand for this purpose from Dremel..

Please be advised that Dremel is best suited for fine and delicate work, the chuck size accomadates max 1/8" dia arbor. This machine is best suited for high speed work and not one requiring high tourque
While building a model you may encounter many other sizes of drilling work and would have to resort to larger size drill
I would suggest a hand drill (much easy to control than a high torque electric drill) the hand drill will take almost all sizes required for model building and can be easily controlled. Only down side being if you need to drill thick metal pieces where it is tedious job with a hand drill
If you are really into scale you should be here. www.rcscalebuilder.com

Hand drill means which is operated by hand, not using a motor?

As rightly quoted, Dremel is for Speed. Not Torque. You may use it for light drilling, but forget about drililng into walls or hard wood. The selling point of Dremel 300 is the speed not torque.

Dremel 300 is not a drilling tool, it is a cutting and sanding tool.
Cheers !!!

You can use it for drilling, but make sure u use it at high speed and slowly insert into the wall - Don't push it hard, take time and slowly do it. I basically did this with a dremel clone which I got for 1250 bucks.

If you are buying a dremel / clones, dont forget to buy safety goggles.

I'm gonna use the dremel for building planes only..

There is a similar one WITH flexible shaft, available in Mumbai for around 1,400.

Flexible shaft is less desired, isn't it ?  I remember comments to that effect.

One can always use it without the shaft. But it comes handy when one wants to open up areas in the cowl, for example, or in a restricted area. It is much easier to work with the flexible shaft as it is less bulky.

I'm over the moon now! My Dremel 300 + 55 accessories just arrived. Will test it out tomorrow.

Sri Varu Power Tools company
22, SJP Road,
Bangalore - 560002.

Thank you so much VC,
I called up Mr. Hari on the no. you provided and he presented himself exactly as you described.  He was out of town unfortunately but made sure on phone that I go through everything smoothly.  Locating shop, parking to payment all happened only and only because of this person on the phone.

I do not know if he is the proprietor of that shop, but it appears work comes to halt in his absence.
Well, Sri Varu Power Tools is basically a authorized BOSCH power tools showroom located on SJP road just behind the big mosque.  People there are lethargic to budget and do some work.  I was told on the door itself that there is "no stock".  My Hari on the phone and stock appeared from the magician's hat.  Cost quoted was above 5k, but again Mr. Hari on the phone and the offer came down to INR 4690 (all inclusive).  Then card payment (POS) device not working, again Mr. Hari on phone and one person is sent with me to the ATM about a kilometer away to collect cash and hand over the item.

So finally got the DREMEL 300/55 pc accessory and I'm all excited.  I'm mainly happy with the cost as the other vendor (Goodwill Enterprises on SP Road nearby) quoted me 5500 + 5% VAT for the same.

Since its BOSCH which has introduced DREMEL in India, service (to some extent) is being taken care by BOSCH itself.  For service you can contact Mr. Ashok.  They clearly say that spares/parts are not available but the machine usually doesn't have any complaints so far.  I have picked it up on shear trust and eagerness to own one!  The same shop has some accessories to offer but unfortunately no attachments.
