Anwar Sahab,

Found a great site in the US that will send Depron and all other foams to India. What is the prferred thickness that I should go in for 3mm or 6mm?

Pls advise.

Regards,

VC

You posed the question to a self confessing non-scratch-builder  8-)  Well, my scratch build experience is sort of minimal, so this question is better answered by others.

However, being around people who build a lot, here are my observations.

1) If you plan to fly outside a lot (which is usually the case), 6mm works best.  It gives you greater options when it comes to outdoor flight.

2) They require lesser reinforcement, and are easier to work with.

More of 6mm and less of 3mm. 6mm is used in most places, but 3mm is used for small indoor foamies and as covering materials on main wing if you plan to build aerofoil etc.

But shipping to INDIA from US would be very expensive as the size of these sheets are big. Also not sure how the Indian postal would handle it as they are delicate? IF there is an option of buying laminated as well as non laminated, then Buy only non - laminated ones. Hope this helps.

EDIT: You can also build outdoor foamies, using thin deprons but it wont look realistic in opinion.

First register yourself at the site (free) and then it accepts your Mailing Destination and calculates prices. Postage is high, however if purchased in quantity, the prices work out to be reasonable.

The issue will be how our Customs/Postal authorities treat the consignment.

As Anwar and Vinay have pointed out, 6mm is the workhorse Depron. infact there is a great Plan site www.6mmRc.Com which has plans made from 6mm Depron.

Working on Biofoam for the first time, I swear that the material is tad fragile.I have got 6x4 feet sheets (5/4mm) and with size, the fragility increases. Uless you buy 10-20 sheets and it is shipped wooden box, I suspect it would ever each India. It would be interesting to see how customs react to the parcel!

Do share the shipping expense, I would still like to get the feel of *real* Depron.
