hi all!
has anybody been using toothpicks for any construction purpose
i plan to build a 12" static scale model of b2 bomber using toothpicks, icecream sticks and tissue[for my younger cousin to show in supw :P :P ;D ;D ;D :giggle: :giggle:
however problem arises how to glue two toothpicks together??
i tried ca,rubber based adhesive, fevicol, hot glue but nothing made a good strong bond
i want a strong inflexible bond which gets in place in second or i need some kind of "jugaad" to hold them together
most of them flow away
some of them don't affect it in any sense
some are flexible
so  are brittle

so is there a good way to join them[i have to join 6-10 of them together
so any idea??

please help me out!!

Why don't you try  " Araldite Clear " ? You have to mix two tubes and the big tubes are for 140rs..

PankajC

could try "quick-fix". It was an adhesive that I used to use on balsa long time back

already tried fevi bond, quick fix and bonfix rubber based glues
they are brittle and don't give expected results

Hi Ankur

I have made a small plane with ice cream sticks. Wil put up pics if you want

ankur

oh gr8
please do so
but my main focus was on toothpicks as ice cream sticks can be joined using ca easily.

Ankur I would also suggest hot glue but I guess at 14 you too young to get involved with that. The initial high expense of investing in a Hot Melt Glue and Gun is only justified if you are well into modelling and tinkering generally...
I made this plane totally with magic clear tape and hot glue gun....

ankur

i already own a hot glue gun and spare sticks!!!
and i tried to join them[in a hurry] and i didn't work well-i was flexible from the joint!!

Can I suggest just a very small dab of hot glue to hold them in place and then a small dab of 2 part apoxy (5 minute Araldite ) as a final adhesive. It will make it too heavy if you are not careful.
Also make sure the hot glue starts to run before you get it to the joining area.
I normally put a plastic bag underneath any Araldite joining areas, excess adhesive can be cut off with clipping pliers.

ok will try out!!
any other way???

ok toh cynoacrelute me salt ya glass powder milake lagao .........the trick is to make a paste of the glue which on hardening makes a really strong bond(like a hard outer covering)........also try talcum powder.....

post the results......

i have made 3 micro planes using toothpick to reinforce the wings and the tail
they also used 2 toothpicks taped together for fuse
<3gms weight... of 1
~5 gms weight of second
~10gms weight of 3rd
the 1st and second have wings and tail made of pakaging of quickfix and idea netsetter respectively
the 3rd has wings and tail of depron/biofoam plates and has been strengthened using toothpicks
will post the pics and other details after my exams.....

so the problem is in making fuse using toothpicks-joining them is hectic
till now i used fuse of 2-4 toothpicks fused together

lets see if any technique works..
