I guess 5mm or 4mm should be fine. You can buy shrink tube locally and it is cheap so nothing much to worry about. It costs Rs.6 per metre here.

Most of the locally available heatshrink tubes have a 2:1 ratio. Which means a 6mm tube will shrink down to almost 3mm. I'm not sure if other shrink ratios are available here. But they're very cheap if you buy it in bulk. I bought 10 metres of 5mm shrink tubing for around Rs.50 from SP Road in Bangalore. I say around Rs.50 cause I bought other cables as well and was given discount on pretty much everything.
