Has anyone locally procured surgical tape "3M Blendrem" which is marketed by Dubro as 'Hinge Tape' ?

(Either Dubro is naive to reveal the OEM or they are too wise, the same $4 tape is available in US market for $1.79)

The tape seems to be a standard tool for surgery/first aid and should be available at major chemists or surgical shop. Any successful find in Bangalore would help complete my F-22 waiting the tail to be hinged.

I think RCforallin has something called "fibre tape". They say it is suitable for hinging.

Hey thanks Sushil for the reply. I already have similar fiber tape from RCDhamaka which I use to re-enforce the foamies (esp edges) where they rock. They are not good for hinges as they offer resistance on bending (the fastening fibers). I used them in my glider and was not that convinced. I bought 'Magic' tape from 3M and they seem to easily tear and lame to crack propagation so not of any use for hinges either.

I called 1-2 surgical shops and they don't seem to have it. Would visit while returning from office.

Why not try the "good old" method of cloth ribbons. Glue to one side of the wing, pull down in the aileron "gap" and glue to the aileron on the other side. Used this technique extensively in the 50's-60's for all hinges on our C/L planes.

Ribbons are available in various widths and bond with virtually any glue.

I have Dubro Hinge Tape.  Works as advertised

I always do the hinges from both sides, just to be sure.

60's !! Sushil sir are you that senior! great to have veteran in the hobby! I have indeed used ribbons to strengthen wing joins on chucks! thanks for reminding me the basics!

Anwar bhai, thanks for the testimony for the tape! I would try to find it locally, else I would order from towers along with the 6016 Rx which are back ordered.
I learnt the taping both the side from your brothers 3D foamie picture you posted. it really really helps. I would post the technique in finner detail in my F-22 thread (huge pending posts from my side).

Any local help still awaited  :help:

sorry to disturb but you can also use the surgical tape(the cloth one and NOT the paper one as it tears easily) locally available with chemist.here in delhi we get for Rs 50 to 60.......try your local chemist shop......also will try to post some pics.......

Speedcar! you are constructively contributing to the thread and and not disturbing! Thanks for your reply!!

As for the cotton surgical tape (used to call Leucoplast in childhood), I would surely give it a try, if I don't find the 3M tape. Actually I also got an idea close to that - using normal band-Aid, while I was painfully removing band aid from my Propeller hurt finger.  The adhesive is darn sticky - the perfect recipe for the hinge tape!

I think the fiber tape from RCD will still work if you hinge it just one side. I dont think it will come off that easily (and can survive a crash as well). Last time when you hinged the aileron, you actually taped on both sides with the aileron too close to the wing, thats the reason that it was getting hard to bend. I am planning to use the same fiber tape for my planes as it is very stickier, thin and durable. :)

You have to stick them on each side after accounting for maximum movement expected of the control surface. If you are sticking on the top, bend the control down to its maximum intended movement position (and vice versa).

Thanks for the tip anwar.
