Try S.P road if you want the best get a Fluke starts from 9k.

But if you want something cheaper and built to last get a one from Meco starts from 1100 to about 6750 for a TRMS type.
A good model to settle for is the 801L  3 3/4 digit costs around 1.5k

My meco is 14 years old now still good as new.

I got a Uni-tech multimeter for  :Rs:120 and spent  :Rs:50 for good quality leads, I am quite satisfied with this. I use it mainly for Voltage measurements. You'll get this one or a better quality ones at SP Road

buying a multi meter is far easy.. a meter within a range about 400 Rs/- will be a good one and lasts for years..and brand name is not much important here, as most them are produced in a same mother factory, but check for the leads and rotary switches for high quality, for long life.. a meter with  big digital display will be more convenient.. make sure, your meter is equipped with transistor check, and capacitance..

There is a significant difference b/w the Rs120 or 400 ones vs a good branded ones both in terms  of build quality, leads and the accuracy.

They are not produced in the same factory.

Helli..its sure i purchased both, in name as Wartech and Hitech..both internals are same..and sure quality will be differ in low cost and high costed sets, but only you can identify it , if you have a lots of experience on it..most of the Chinese equipments including our hobby radio sets are coming from same factory in various brand names..like multi meters..

make sure, your meter is equipped with transistor check, and capacitance..

Honestly, these are of virtually no use - especially for a newbie.

And, by suggesting that the quality of switches, etc. need to be looked at, aren't you tacitly admitting that  there ARE differences, even if made in the same factory?

if you are a student i suggest buying a low cost multimeter around 150, like i did in my 8th std, it is still working even after 9 yrs........

if u are a full time electronic hobbyist , then go for a good one, which u can get for >600

All my cheap multimeters running for 3-15 years. cost 80/- to 1500/-
Costly brand is Metravi, Kolkata brand (Possibly outsources from Hongkong.

Any cheap will serve the perpose. Just buy additional probes of best quality to stay with or make your ow.

Thanks.
