Knitting needles can also do the job.  A number 15 (about 2mm) should be good enough. The sell for <10 rupees each  and the
length is usually 30cms. You can get it in any fancy store.

Try Piano wire in the range of 13 to 17 No.(SWG). I hope it will solve the purpose and will be cheap.

You can also use broom sticks with all-pins at the end bended in z shape for small parkflyers. Dirt cheap.

I am no expert but i will place my bets on Carbon Fibre rods (if you have)  or Knitting needles (easily available and not very heavy)

Kabab sticks (wood/bamboo) were mentioned before.  Of course, you will need some kind of metal ends.

they are from 5 to 8gms depending on which ones u get (small or large) for Rs.1-2/-

The wire used for holding iron rods is strong and light.

yeah the same.. Actually i found many just lying around my building. thanks to the crows who prefer it a lot for building their nest and 'hack' it off some construction site!! :giggle:  :giggle:

"they are from 5 to 8gms depending on which ones u get (small or large) for Rs.1-2/-"  that is for cycle spokes.. sorry was not clear there...

We recently started using Aluminum Knitting needles cheap and light. Make sure you heat it and bend before doing Z bend.

hi,

i even tried bamboo stick from kites,  with office pins/clips for Z at the ends.

dont forget to roll thread at the ends between bamboo and office clips and put some CA for ultimate strength

I've seen this technique in a video..In tat the guy is taking a rod like bicycle spokes..He is cutting app 2inches from top n bottom..He is bending the top piece to z bend, screwing clevis in the bottom threaded piece.. He is inserting these 2pieces in a CF tube's top n bottom n applying glue..Push rod is ready.. Any one tried this?

I have used this technique. It works but not good in a long run.
Problems i faced
1. After adding glue, adding spokes and reinforcing with thread at both the ends of cf , it becomes heavy (comparatively)
2. The carbon fiber tube starts to widen, and ultimately the cf fibers starts to rip off.

Use knitting  needles(#14) instead.
Final Weight in grams of cf+spokes  = 7-8grams aprox
Final Weight in grams of knitting needles = 4grams

Any shop that sells hosiery items should have it. You may try the ladies cosmetic shops and the ones that sell items like socks / undergarments  :giggle:

There is a particular word for this kind of a store and I have always wanted to use this word. Thanks for giving me the chance - It is a Haberdashery or a Haberdasher's  store. they sell things like buttons, ribbons, sewing and knitting items etc. ;D

I feel Cycle spokes are a better bet in coro glow models. Advantages
1. One side is threaded so goes well into a clevis
2. Very strong - Can take all the force during 3 D flying
3. Cheap and easily available.
4. Weight being about 5 gms is not too much when considering advantages.
And then seldom is the full spoke used. Most often only 1/2 the spoke (Threaded side) is used when the servo's are placed near the control surfaces.

I'm not sure what would work well in electrics, (Never made them) but CF rods with office U pins seems to sound good

I think for the tie rods we don't need the z bend tool..How do u connect with the control horn without clevis?

I heard that this Diwali season 200cm sparklers are available.
Would buy a pack.
These are mostly copper plated steel.
Would make great pushrods!!  ;D

hi
i found a new nylon material which is light and flexible thickness approximately .5mm to 2mm which can fit in to the cleaves easily one thing iam searching is a strong flexible tube in which  it can run through  like break wires where the tube can be fixed with glue or some other techenique inside the walls of the fuselage

i found this material in fishing material shop they use this lines for catching big fishes using fishing rod pins (sorry i dont know the exact name for it, in tamil they will call thundil)

very soon iam going to experiment on it

it is very cheap 100 gms of it cost nearly 20rs it is around 10 meaters

also found nylon lines equal to the one used in parasail in paraglider at 20 rs one reel about 50-80 meters
it is very strong thai it is holding nearly 15kg and may be more. i tested by hanging 15kg rice bag to a single strand of thread
