Rc plane building from thermocole

I want to build an rc plane by using normal thermocole. please help me.
even crashing requires a flight......

Hi, we had build some planes from (Thermocole, Not because we love thermocole but for the scarcity of other materials ) we used the most compressed thermocole we could find eg. a box used for packing fish (ice box ?) other packing thermos are not good.
Believe me we could not find a good compressed thermo sheet here.

The good thing about Thermocole is that it is very light, easy to cut and join, we use Fevicole and rapid glue for joining which are easily available.

Covers, again which is Not available anywhere here, we use Paper sometimes glossy papers, which makes the thermocole strong.

Not to forget, we are cutting the wings from the Thermo too, but reinforce it with some small stick, just to make sure its strong.

Paint it or sticker it. :-)

Very nice build zonuna {:)} is the fuse hollow or is it made from block of foam ???

Thanks SunLikeStar, The Fuse is hollow, Thermo is cut into a sheet, use just like you would with balsa.

The V Tail on the wall in the first pic (unless I am very mistaken) is this. I have the same.

Thats a plane bought from ebay long time back, kind of twin star, simple motor controlled plane

I am amazed to see a thermacol built plane with a 40 size engine... :bow:....is it strong enough to hold the roaring beast ? I am talking about the vibrations!!!! is it Reinforced with some covering or paint or cloth ?

We are using a normal heater wire about 1meter long using 12v AC sometimes DC, we also adjust the heat according to our needs by steeping up a voltage

Thats a nice plane, see what I mean by a good compressed thermocol, your fuse seemed like a lose pack thermo, if only we could have a good quality thermo to buy..

To my surprise, the plane is very very strong, even without a reinforce, But we reinforced the wings with a small piece of sticks, the firewall is a piece of plywood, The whole plane is covered with paper by using fevicol, some of our models are Not covered but paint.

For Tail and control surface are all THERMOCOL covered with paper + Fevicol.

Wow Wow Amazing build Zonuna. Yep this is the first time I have seen a thermocol plane with Glow Engine that too size 0.49. Please share your paper and Fevicol Method. Never tried this one before always used clear tape, sealing iron and carbon reinforcements.

Have loads of high density thermocol waiting to be hot wired and shaped. The finish you have achieved is really inspiring way to go  :thumbsup:

Thank you Sir,
Paper + Fevicol = really simple, Smoothed the thermo, apply Fevi on both then paste it :-) we usually use a thicker paper like glossy to make a wrinkle free. I cannot use clear cello with Fevicol as drying is a problem.

I am pretty impressed!..

I have seen using thermocol + tissue paper + diluted fevicol in a TV program for kids (Art attack).. In fact they also showed how to make models/molds using news paper crushed and held in shape with cellotape. They then used tissue paper + dilute fevicol to reinder a smooth surface over it. Finally, they painted after its dry. I thought using this method will be too fragile for an RC plane... but from your build I can see its worth giving a try.

One more question.. How do you reinforce your landing gear area? I always have tough time with my landing gears. Thermocol would not sustain high stress.. curious to know how you managed it.
