Hi!
Its been long since I posted, but I have been busy with things that involve a lot of soldering. :P I use Soldron irons and they are quite reliable.. But I am having a hard time with the bits.. They get corroded easily and thats costing me both time and money.. Can you guys please tell me where I can get good conical tips for a 25W iron please? Don't suggest Hakko or Weller, can't afford them.

I also use Soldron irons and haven't faced corroded tips yet. I do take care of a few things, like using good quality Solder as the flux in some solder cause the tip to corrode. Another thing is to wipe the tip with a moist cloth or sponge at regular intervals to keep it clean from flux build up.
And the most important habit is to turn the iron off when not using it.

Whats the new project ? Leds?

Its hard to get tips for those irons  :banghead: :banghead:....i used to buy it locally(not original)(available for some 30-50 Rs) but the scarcity of the tips made me change to the variable wattage soldron  iron whose tips are available online plus even in electronics shop(original)

i'm using Original Soldron Roundtip bit for 2 years, always take time to rub in wet sponge before soldering and is neat till now.

keep your solder iron tip clean by wiping off wet sponge before turning off and put a dab of solder just before cool off. it acts as an anti corrosion and next time you can wet-sponge wipe the old solder and dab with fresh solder. if severely corroded, file/sand the solder surface with a smooth file while hot and immediately use solder wire on it to keep it off the corrosion. always use good quality solder and flux. iam using both flat and pointed tips from past decade without any issues.

Sir but filing down a soldering iron tip causes it to oxidize and the tip is rendered useless?

If you try cold filing a solder tip, by the time you attain melting temp it again renders oxidised. So what I do is quick file it during hot and immediately dab solder to avoid the issue. Again it is not a frequent exercise, so wouldn't take out the life of the tip. For pointed tip, there is no such need as it comes with no problems with the oxidation. It is not recommended to file or fiddle et all!

10 years back i have purchased one soldering iron 25w of NOEL company. it is based in Delhi near Raja Garden. no idea if the company exist. along with the iron i purchased two bits. don't remember what coating it is having. but since then it is working as it is. i use to clean the tip with a yellow cleaning sponge.

Fly high if you have good set of batteries.....!

I think I maintain good soldering practices but the tip goes bust nevertheless. The Soldron tips available locally are not conical, but last longer. But I need fine tips for some of the work I do and the local tips are just not adequate.. I have seen some good 25w alluminium coated tips on Soldron's website.. Any ideas on where I could get them?

They are called ceramic tips here in Kolkata... They are just the same as the normal tips.. Since the tips themselves are not coated. They are still metal.
