Dollar Tree Foam is Depron foam which is coated with a paper sheet on both sides. The paper not only adds strength, but also makes a flatter surface.
Many sources say that you can use depron, epo or epp as an alternative.
Dollar tree is very famous in the US as it costs only a dollar per sheet and thus works out to be very cheap.
FliteTest also uses DollarTree a lot and I remember watching a video in which they showed what DollarTree Foam is and also showed how it looks after peeling the paper, however, I am unable to find that video.
Hope this helps :)

Hello maahin,

I was referring to original Dollar Tree Depron foam which is coated with a paper sheet on both sides  :headscratch:
I have already bought depron from ' that source '  ;D.

Thanks any way for the information. :)

Bio Pack India (Bombay) local depron source for all thickness must be producing the Dollar tree type sheets also.

Used as wall/ceiling insulation and by film crew for reflecting sunlight on to subjects in daylight shooting.

bought through VC a huge lot from source in kokatta, not from the OEM source though.

Someone if he can get sample and verify it would be nice.

Seems Bio Pack has stopped producing Normal Depron

Guru-smg

Thanks Sundaram sir.

As you rightly said it would help many, if Someone nearby can get sample and verify.

      I think Dollar tree foam is not same as depron you can see pros and cons of both type of foam here,
http://red20rc.org/depron-vs-foam-board/. Foam board has more strength but it has much higher weight also. I think both are easily available in India.... the thing is you must know were it is used and given local name, if any .  I am in Jamnagar, Gujarat... here Depron is known as Chinese Thermocol or Chinese foam... My Rc moderler Friend  Mr. Pathak told me you can buy it at this particular place... i went there and asked for depron... they told me we do not sell it.... then I told him name of my friend and explained use ... then he said oh Chinese foam....

now a days lot of materials we see in routine but we are not aware of the name .... and depending on use density and property of same type of material is having different properties and also look.....I feel that following stuff is available in India and Can be used for modeling.... this are much cheaper alternative to balsa.... even there are some woods available in India which can be used as replacement of balsa... but again we must know regional name....

  • Depron  = you can easily find  at shop which cells decorative items.....

  • Dollar tree Foam Board =If I understood the same thing.... I think this one used in Sign making ...simply known as foam board .. some times used to make false ceiling ... so possibility to get building material supplier... I have idea of some supplier in Rajkot

  • EPF = Expanded Polystyrene Foam, Styrofoam  =  is patented name of the same family.... it is used in building and construction industry for insulation..... in this kind of foam cutting direction is important if you want bend or non bending structure....
(I think is low density version of this is known as Expended in local name and used in bag making ...and it is easy to fold compare to depron ... so thin sheet is suitable for airfoil section..... this foam has lot of holes on outer surface so possibly much higher friction... if covered with plastic tape it would be grate.....

  • EPP = Widly used packing industry some times in Automobiles (At least I used to design headrest internals using EPP), I look like thermocol but very high strength compare to thermocol... low density epp can be bent and has high shock absorbing strength.

  • Corrugated Sheets = Wildly used  in packing / sign making and building and construction (for making temp roof for vehicle parking etc...).
we found 3 mm Corrugated sheet from plastic store but 2 mm(for airfoil) was not easy to find when we spoke with lot of supplier they ask for quantity of tons or big cartoons.... after lot of search and we got old sheet from corrugated box manufacturer but 3 times expensive and having lot of wrinkles.... finally one friend in printing and packing industry told me that it can be available in building material supplier.... it is used to cover the floor tiles from scratches to protect ongoing work inside the building.... [/li]
[li]Another depron like (some people call it zepron) bendable foam is used in disposable dishes, this foam is very good bending properties and suitable for airfoil construction....[/li]
I can post all addresses of this suppliers for Jamngar or Rajkot or Saurashtra Region.... but i will not do it because Idea is to have contact with other modelers .....

To: svalambhia

I too live in Jamnagar and I am new to rc hobby. I want to buy foam board (not actually foam board depron or dollar tree foam) but don't know where can I get it (in Jamnagar) so can you help me. I live in Khodiyar colony.

@3mihirsinh,

Welcome to RC INDIA.

Your first post may not get any response, as this thread is 4 years old!

Depron (also called biofoam) should surely be available in Ahmedabad or Baroda. Certainly in Crawford Market in Mumbai. If you can't find a source, look at vortex-rc.com

kaivalya

@3 mihirsinh,

you will get depron sheets of 3mm,5/6mm in jamnagar near Darbargadh(Opp.Head Post Office).There is a shop of some Nagori who sell decoration items.I often purchase sheets to make plane.Don't call depron there,call chinese thermacol and you will get it.

@kaivalya,

Pathak sir, that is the most helpful reply I've seen in a long time. Thanks.

knvshrm

Depron as well as dollar tree foam( known as foam board there) is available at Sitaram Stationaries . They have a lot of variety in sizes , thickness and even balsa is available there. The price for a sheet of depron and foam board is the same. Hope this helps.

@knvshrm,
Useful info.
Where is Sitaram located?
I presume you mean Sitaram StationEry, and not StationAry
There's a difference between the two  ;D
