I don't think it can be used for building planes. I don't know the name of this material

I think it is EPP Foam. if you have hot wire cutter, you can use it to build planes, provided you can find proper pieces to cut out the parts. You would also need good reinforcement with CF rods.

Can it be used for making planes.
I am with Iwincar confused

This foam is known as "chemifoam" here . It is quite resistant to breaking, but is absolutely useless in model construction.  Its good for insulation and outdoor furniture since it is water repellant. Its available from 3mm thickness and higher. Doesn't really adhere to any kind of glue either.

it is not EPP definitly
it is used as insulation material or packaging material

Polyurethane packing foam. Good for constructing airboats with flat bottoms. However, it will ride high in the water / has to be reinforced with wood framing / weighted down (or else the boat will tip over). Therefore practically useless. Sticks somewhat with hot glue.

if you can use the hotwire properly and give aerofoil shape and put a spar you can have an unbreakable plane. You can use rubber solution to stick these post using sandpaper a bit.

its not epp but it looks same as epp , although it is very strong but heavy , if you can mange to cut 4 5 mm sheet from the block and reenforced with carbon fiber strips then it may fly , i have tried this foam already year back but never managed to cut it .

i got this foam for free from nehru palace delhi , it is used there to keep 20 or more pcs of hard drive altogether

Look, Everything can be used in aeromodeling with proper combination. If you purchase aeromodeling materials, it's costly for low demand, but if you use the materials used for other purpose which has good demand and supply, it should be damn cheap than materials specially for aeromodelling. That is why aeromodellers used various materials for making planes.
But "cheap" is not the only prime criteria as the cost of electronics/engine is much more and "reliability of the model for life of electronics/engine" is prime factor than cost savings.

well the model must not only be flyable.... but also look apealling to the eye.... well rounded off edges, streamlined and painted.... something..... say it should look "HOT".  best material is Balsa as it is the most suitable one...... to that thermocol wings can be added... it will definately be light enough and good looking to anyone....
