One of the basic problem most of the modellers face is the availability of materials. Internet offers a good mechanism to shop - sans the headache of finding the right shop. I would like to see online shops start offering

1) depron/biofoam sheets of various thickness
2) thin ply
3) piano wire
4) square carbon rods

e.g. I see from one of the posts that there are wholesale suppliers of biofoam in Chennai - unfortunately there are none in Delhi/NCR so if someone were to start offering the service of atleast sourcing these from local vendor and shipping, I am sure many would benefit.

We have tried shipping foam in the past  but the cost of the shipment is twice the cost of the foam and damages  and breakage is  a very strong possiblity  even with the best of packing .
In fact we have supplied them to a few members here and  stopped.
This makes the whole proposal of shipping foam  a wasteful excersise for the seller as well as the buyer.
Same is the case with  thin ply.

We used to carry square CF rods earlier but the number of takers for it were very very few .

I remember someone from Delhi posting about finding Depron in Khari Bawli/Sadar Bajar area in Delhi. Please get hold of some sign board /Advertising board painter and he would tell where he gets Vinyl boards etc. Few Vinyl shop guys do sell Biofoam as these are used by food/Confectionery/Foto Framing folks as well.

Thin ply (also call Veiner board) should be available in plywood shop, the problem is they seldom sell below 8'x6' sheets. I bought 3mm ones @Rs15/sft luckily one guy had a strip of 1 feet wide. They are great for making Motor Mounts and reinforcing fuse.

Piano wire, you should get from numerous musical instrument shops in Paharganj area (just before Jama Masjid, on way to Chandni Chowk). BTW for cutting Foam, do try heater Nichrome wire - they have high resistance and get heated up soon.

CF rods are a peculier items I guess hard to find. People either buy them in bulk from HC or get them from LHS like RcForAll/RCDhamaka. Sadly, my LHS RCD is running out of stock on CF rods and I dont want to pay more on their shipping from Chennai. May be for my first plane, I will try Cane Rods form Cane furniture guys. Hope Sanjeev get his shipment off the customs morons soon.

Folks, do pick up business card of such shops selling items of our interest. I have started doing this and make a small note of the itmes at the back the card. It helps keeping a memo for others and yourself.
