Hey guys

I have recently come to India for Studies, NIT Durgapur to be exact, and would like to start building RC model planes with Depron, i have been building with normal packaging foam for a while now, but its too heavy and dense and very hard to find so i would like to start using depron.
Does anybody know where In kolkata i can get depron? or even balsa sheets that i can shape and model by myself.

would really like to hear your responses and i do hope some of you could help me. thanks alot.

Get in touch with Kalyan Prodhan, a moderator, on this forum and Rohit - both based in Kolkata. They can give you accurate directions. Cheap (as compared to some other LHS) Balsa sheets are available at G.C. Laha, stationers, at Esplanade /Dharmatolla.

Hope I got the greeting correct?

I have sent Kalyan a Personal message, and wil wait for him to reply, hopefully i can start building pretty soon again. does the Forum have any club meets or anything of that sort? where all members get together, or where do most people go fly. (besides at India's Hobby centre).

Hi Micheal, Welcome to the forum. Depron is available in Kolkata but not in thin sheets, you will get them in blocks(thickness ranging from 25mm to 100mm) and you will have to purchase in bulk, unless you are able to request and convince the store for a single piece, citing college/engineering project. The name of the company is Supreme Petrochem(they call it XPS board). However, we build our planes with coro sheets(locally called sunpack), because it is locally available and extremely cheap. It allows us to use rivets instead of glues to fix things, which makes the process a lot more faster and cleaner. I am a student of BESU, Shibpur and I build and fly RC airplanes with Kalyan Prodhan at my college field. You are most welcome to visit my college when you are free.

Bulk? how many blocks would they consider as bulk? and i dont have a good enough Hot wire cutter to handle that thickness and cut it into nice +/- 5 mm sheets. you have me curious though, the sunpack material you a store reffering to, is it that same material often used to make storage boxes for Drawing kits? confirm the image below...( ps. can i buy it in bulk and where in Kokatta do they stock it?
where exactly is your college? how far is it from here. might just take you up on the offer after summer vacations

Sorry for the late reply. Well in Kolkata, coro/sunpack is available in Chandani market/Burra bazar(not to mention, local signage/printing stores, advertisement hoardings on lamp posts :D). I think it will also be available in Durgapur. Search for it in the local markets/ printing, stationary stores, etc. Take your drawing box as a sample and carry it around with you, I'm quite sure that you will get it there, although it might be expensive compared to Kolkata.

Will surely do so on Tuesday, as most of the shops will be closed tomorrow(something about Monday being a holiday around here). I asked though, do you have any build video's or pictures, as this will be the first time i will be using this material.

There are many coro build threads in this forum. Use the search option. Also visit this website http://www.spadtothebone.net/freeplans.htm There are tons of stuff in there.
