Just getting into electrics and micros and need a micro receiver cheap. suggestions, advice , brickbats welcome

A micro crystal will cost you around $10 in outside LHSes, but you can get a light Corona synthesized receiver for not much more.

Although this is not a direct answer to your query, it is just a suggestion in case you run into a wall with this :)

@anwar - thanks fro the tip. i think my last resort is the corona synthesized receiver from HK. but i m hoping to get something locally :) .

They were in stock earlier at some LHSes.  The one I remember was Indian Hobbies, but it seems to be out of stock there now.
