Found a perfect mounting substance. Gaf tape for those who don't know, is a cloth-backed tape similar to duct tape but it's easily removed. It's used extensively by film and stage crews (I'm a guitarist and used to gig a lot so I still have some around). I found I can scrape the adhesive off the cloth and get a small amount of very tacky yet easily removable putty. I form a rectangle in very thin strips on the guard's mount point. Unlike the flat tape, it has a bit of depth so the high spot of the canopy fits into the rectangle. It holds well but is flexible. I think it will also work well for the motor mounts.
