Is this like simple hardware store available grade ? Made of MS or SS?

look inside ur house, u will suerly find one.. I am using a nut which i got with a cycle dynamo, it was a 4mm adaptor

Just go to the local store and pickup one. 5/16-24 may not be easily found in your household. You dont need to buy it from tower or any proprietary store.
What you need to match is the dia and thread, outer size could vary a bit (within reason)
