Title: Silicon Spray required
Post by: VC on February 13, 2011, 10:36:29 PM
Has anyone seen Silicon Spray being sold in retail? I need a can urgently for my Hovercraft Skirts and would request the members from the bigger metros to help me out. I prefer not to buy from ebay (only one product) as the details are not mentioned.

Thanks and Regards.

I think Wd-40 or any other silicone spray will do the job.

WD 40 has no silicone in it.

Dashboard spray - used in cars is primarily silicone - and is
available in any self respecting auto parts shop.

also consider the latest generation of shoe polish - specially the
clear versions - all silicone based -available commonly in impregnated sponges

Sir,

Try Mold Release Spray used in plastic molding industry.
It's silicone based & costs around 70/- for a can.

Pardon my ignorance but what, exactly, do you want to use it for?

We are using Rip Stop to create the skirt. It is the same material that is used for making car covers. It is not 100% waterproof (unlike umbrella material). We just want to give it a coat of silicon spray to see if it helps to keep out the water. I wonder where I can buy umbrella material?

For umbrella material you can ask any local manufacturer in Calcutta.

try telfon fabric - totally waterproof and low coefficient
of friction. - also able to withstand temps upto 150 degrees

should be readily available in Ghy as its extensively used in the tea factories.

My Tea knowledge is definitely rusty, however, we had never heard of Teflon in the late eighties! What is it used for? If I have that info, it will facilitate my search in Guwahati.

Awning shops keep umbrella material.

Awnings are usually made of PVC to withstand harsher environments than umbrellas. Might be a bit to heavy for VC's application.

PVC will be very heavy indeed. I meant these shops keep umbrella material, i dont know what they use it for but they sure do keep it.

Thanks for all the inputs. Will it be possible for someone to send me 3 metres of Black Umbrella material? Only if you can find it without taking any trouble or going out of your way. I'll be grateful. Pl PM me the price inclusive of courier charges.

Regards.
