I have run out of 3 mm undercarriage wire for my 3 feet aerobatic model which weighs about 500 gms plus.  I have searched many LHS but could not find it here.  Can someone help me find a ready made undercarriage i.e. landing gear or 3 mm steel wire to be used on my model...  I will be happy if a landing gear is offered to me.
Thanks

I could source 3mm wire for you, however, have you tried using cycle rickshaw spokes?

Go to your nearest electric supply substation and ask
for some discarded conductor (the wires which carry electricity) not the shielded
type - just the bare aluminium stranded one which is strung between poles.

This is called ACSR -(aluminium conductor steel reinforced ) - the central core is
a steel wire of the highest quality.

ACSR is classified by the names of cats - i.e - Ferret , Weasel , ... upto Leopard , panther etc..
so the bigger the size of the cat - the bigger the conductor/steel core.

You can get steel wire from 1mm right upto 6mm from this -(best part totally free if you ask nicely)

Thanks a lot everyone.... especially to Saiket.  Will indeed try with the local Electricity board office.  AND not to mention VC.  He has always been helpful and forthcoming with the right advice..... I am looking wither for the wire to make my undercarriage or a single piece landing gear which is pre bent to the right size.  The ones on the Lotus hobby website are two piece ones which are not suitable for me.
Thanks again

Kinetic hobbies has 1.5mmx300mm spring steel control rod, maybe that might  work : http://www.kinetichobbies.com/accessories/push-rods/push-rods-1-5mm.html
Build planes like feathers rather than tanks, both handle bullets equally well.

Shobhit no issues, I have a bicycle shop just next door and they stock the Cycle Rickshaw spokes.

@shobhit17 sir,
While i've been wondering what can be sent by post, many have already responded.
If you pm me your address, i can send you some some carbon fibre fabric, say 1"x24"x2
Should be easy to mail.
Stick about 6 layers with slow epoxy. Stiffen with cycle spoke if reqd.
Meanwhile, if you've thinner spring steel wire, you can use it to stiffen legs made of cycle spoke.

@shobhit17 sir,

Problem already solved?

Sorry everyone.... got a bit busy and lost track of the thread.  Well I am still looking for the wire.  Hopefully tomorrow I should get it.  Anyway I lost my best aerobatic model last Sunday and it was a complete writeoff.... put me down thinking what I did wrong for a long time.
Anyway this weekend will be back in the Air....
