on the hobbyking site it is 30 amps either its the esc that came defected or there was a short(did any of the two wires touched each other and did u use heat shrink??) ,to be safe it is recommended to use an esc which has the amp rating 20-30% higher than your motor in this case the motor takes the max current 35amps so you should use a 40 amp esc ...i had the same problem so i bought an 30amp esc for my 25amp motor and now it works fine(but be sure not to use an esc which has a very high rating like an 80amp it can damage the motor)...im telling u this by experience but if im wrong, correct me...

then it was either the short or the esc was not compatible with the motor...get a 40amp esc then

One important data is missing. what prop have you used?
Just googled this and found that ive already used this motor and it was a Crappy motor you could ever get.
Bushing will give noise like 10th run, mount breaks easily due to poor aluminium!!.
Okay , here is the good news, ive used it on a 8x4 prop and 20A esc and it was all fine.
a little warm after a minute or two of run.

Sir,
Are you thinking of the smaller Donkey ? 2204 perhaps?
Both i and devashish (on this forum) used the Donkey 2204 combo. With 8x4 props.
I, on my little bipe, Devashish on his 3d.
Both more than satisfied.

This 3511 is rated for 12x6 props!

No Iyer sir,

The one with 4mm Shaft. the motor mount bent on very first nose crash. Magnets got rusted like few months later.
will post pics probably by tomorrow on the motor can(Thats all is left). the looks itself a little intimidating. you would not believe how bad the magnets inside look like. the shaft is still strong though. and thrust is good for the size but not the quality.
